The European Union is making a commitment to Climate Investor 2 (CI2), a financing facility managed by Climate Fund Managers that invests in water, sanitation, and ocean infrastructure projects in emerging economies. The investment of  €19.7 million (or approximately $24 million) raises the value of assets managed by CI2 to €95 million (or about $115 million) following earlier investments from other development-minded institutions.

The European Union’s investment is being allocated to two funds underlying CI2; the CI2 Development Fund and the CI2 Construction Equity Fund. The Development Fund will provide capital to a pipeline that’s been built up of bankable water, sanitation, and oceans projects while the Construction Equity Fund will help catalyze equity investors for the projects’ construction phase. Each EU dollar enables another four dollars of commercially sourced capital to be invested across the rest of the structure.
