Paris-based Trail Capital is investing capital in an investment vehicle managed by a year-old investment company focused on backing entrepreneurs building emerging heritage fashion and lifestyle products and brands in Africa. The investment in Birimian Ventures is a precursor to a significant joint venture in the sector which will see the two companies launch Birimian X Trail, a long-term investment company that will be co-managed by the two organizations.

Once it is up and running, Birimian X Trail plans to invest at least €5 million every year in a portfolio of brands. The partners are marketing the investment platform to other investors and aim to hold a first close by the end of this year. As well as investment capital, Trail will provide Birimian with access to the fashion and leisure sector business-building expertise within its team as well as the private equity firm’s extensive network in the industry in Europe, the USA, and Asia. Among Trail’s portfolio of investments are Mazarine, a digital fashion and creative agency dedicated to luxury, art, and culture, APM Monaco, a contemporaneous jewelry brand, Wella, the well-known hair care brand, and Buffet Crampon, a wind instrument business.
